Atlas

For parents and guardians

Know where your child stands, without having to ask.

Atlas shows you your child's path to their next stripe or belt: the classes they've attended, what they've been working on, and what comes next. Plain numbers for attendance, plain words for skills, and never a comparison with anyone else's child. Enrolling children through Atlas is coming soon.

Attendance isn't the product. Progression is.

A gym counts visits. A martial arts studio is different: every student is working toward a stripe or a belt, and that promotion rests on time at rank, the techniques they've covered and the coach's judgement. In most small studios none of it is written down. It lives in the head coach's memory.

That costs everyone. Parents ask why another child was promoted and theirs wasn't, and there's no record to point to. Students can't see what to work on next. Coaches and owners avoid software because setting it up costs more than it saves. Atlas keeps the record for almost no effort, so the conversation about progress starts from facts.

How Atlas works

  1. 1

    The coach writes one sentence

Before or after class, a coach types what it covered: “arm locks from guard, then positional sparring.” Atlas matches the words to techniques in the studio's own library and shows them as chips. The coach confirms, removes or adds one. When the match isn't clear, Atlas can ask an AI model for help, and still nothing is saved until the coach confirms.

  2. 2

Everyone who was there gets credit

Students check in by scanning the studio's code. When the class closes, every student who checked in is credited with every technique it covered. A class nobody closes closes itself at the end of the day, with the plan.

  3. 3

    Everyone sees where they stand

Coaches see each student's time at rank, classes and skills against the studio's own requirements, as advice. Families see their belt, stripes and attendance as plain numbers, and skills in plain words: covered, working on it, coming up next.

What Atlas holds to

  • The coach decides

Requirements inform a promotion and never block one. Every stripe and every belt is a coach's call, and Atlas never awards, removes or changes a rank on its own.

  • No comparisons

No rankings, no leaderboards. A family sees their own child's record, never another child's, and families can't message each other.

  • Almost no effort

No menus of techniques, no student data entry, no roll call. Students enrol themselves with the studio's code, and the studio approves them.

  • Each studio's records stay its own

A studio's students, classes and notes are kept apart from every other studio's. Its staff see its records, and each family sees only its own children.

Atlas is built for Brazilian jiu jitsu today, with its adult and kids belt ladders. Judo and karate are coming. Adult students enrol today; parents enrolling their children is coming.

What you see

  • Their belt and stripes

With the next milestone named, so you both know what comes next.

  • Attendance as plain numbers

Classes this month and since their last promotion, the last eight weeks at a glance, and their training streak.

  • What they're working on, in plain words

For each area of the next rank: covered in class, working on it, or coming up next. You won't see scores, and you won't see your child compared with anyone.

  • What's coming up

Techniques from the next rank that are still ahead, framed as something to look forward to and to practise at home.

  • Notes from the coach

Short notes like “focus on hip escapes this month”, newest first, with the coach's name and date.

  • Every promotion

Their promotion history with dates, and a card to share or save when they earn a new belt.

Ask the coach

Pick a question (“How is she progressing?”, “What should we practise at home?”, “When might the next stripe come?”) or write your own. The coach answers through Atlas, usually within a few days, so a hallway worry becomes a question with an answer.

Enrolling children is coming

Adding a child through Atlas isn't open yet. When it is, you'll scan your studio's code, add your child by name and date of birth, and the studio approves you, so strangers can't add themselves. If you train yourself, you can already join your studio as an adult student.

Enrolling children through Atlas is coming soon. If you train yourself, you can already join as an adult student.

More than one child, or one studio

Each child has their own view, and if your children train at different studios, each one's progress stays with its own studio. You can join another studio from your account at any time.

Privacy, by design

  • Only your children

Atlas never shows your child's records to other families, and families can't message each other.

  • You own your child's account

Your child's record belongs to your family and their studio. The studio's staff and you see it; no one else does.

  • Nothing evaluative for children

A child's own view is about progress and what comes next: their belt, their streak, the moves they've learned. Never a score.

  • You choose what you hear

Promotions by email or notification, a weekly summary if you want it, and nothing you've switched off.

Questions

Does it cost anything?

No, there's nothing for a family to buy in Atlas.

Will I see how my child compares with other kids?

No, by design. You see your own child's attendance and progress, never anyone else's, and never a ranking.

Why don't I see scores for each technique?

Skills are the coach's judgement, so Atlas shows them in plain words (covered, working on it, coming up next) and never as a mark. Attendance is a fact, so you see it exactly.

Does Atlas decide when my child is promoted?

No. The coach decides every stripe and belt. Atlas keeps the record that helps them, and helps you understand it.

My child's studio isn't on Atlas yet.

Tell your coach about it. Studios can start for free, and the page for studio owners is linked below.

Can my child use Atlas themselves?

Your child's own login is coming. Meanwhile there's a page written for kids aged 13 and over, linked below.
